[p róggrfee ] (plural py·rog·ra·phies) noun
py·rog·ra·pher noun py·ro·graph·ic [pr gráffik ] adjective
1. burning designs into wood and leather: the art or technique of creating designs on wood and leather using heated tools that burn away some of the surface 2. design created by burning: a design burned into wood or leather using a heated tool.
Pyrography is an ancient art form using fire and heat as the creative outlet. Burning can be done on various materials such as wood, leather, tagua nut, bone, horn, paper, and other surfaces. In more recent history, the Victorian era found pyrography to be a promising art, according to the ladies' magazines of the time. These articles fueled the popularity of this unique art also referred to as "Pokerwork".
Within our research we have found many different "claims" to the beginning of "pyrography". All in all we have found that wood burning/pyrography in general is different in every persons eyes and you must "let your mood guide you" while working with wood. When you really think about it, you are bringing nature back together with humans... In today's time we are custom to the "high-tech" times and seem to forget about nature: the forest on a sunny day with the wind blowing through the leaves and laying on the flowing grass right at the end of the tallest trees shadows or those rainy days where you used to sit underneath the "big" oak (or similar) tree and wish the rain away.... Just those "good OLD" times that tend to slip our memories, but HERE it is finally a true HOBBY that can bring us back to NATURE.... GIVE IT A TRY!!!
